With an extra table and chairs, I can reduce my group sizes to 3-4 students per group instead of having some groups with 5 students to a table. This will help reduce distractions, increase participation, and increase learning. When groups are too large students become distracted and they also lose their voice. Reducing the number of students in a group gives the group members more opportunities to voice their thoughts and evidence. They also have to ask questions if they don’t understand, rather than sitting back and letting someone else take over. I find that with smaller groups, students learn more effectively.
