With the technology world constantly developing, and almost all of the kids using it outside of school, I feel like it's only right to give my students the opportunity to have access to technology inside the classroom as well. However, that is difficult to do when you have 27 students and only have enough technology for about 1/3 of them on a good day when all devices are working. Technology is not only extremely engaging for students, but they also feel a sense of ownership, choice, and responsibility when they get to use a Chromebook for their work. For example, I use a lot of different apps and websites within my classroom to help them work on their reading, writing, and math. These programs are able to reach a student at their individual level and students are engaged, and highly motivated to work with technology to complete work instead of working on boring old worksheets all the time! My students feel so proud when they reach a certain level and they're able to track their own learning and growth! It's a special moment when students see their final papers, slideshows, or projects completed online and they're able to share it with other classmates or share it with me to get put on the Smartboard to share with the class! My students also really enjoy typing on computers and being able to research. It would be ideal if they all had access instead of them having to do some time here and there which can cause confusion to their final projects in the long run. Having more access to technology would continue to help prepare these students for their future! Everything we do in life is done through technology, why not allow learning to be done that way as well?
