Math is all too important, especially with an increasing focus on STEM and STEM fields. All too often, I hear adults and older students utter the phrase, "I hated math!" This is something I want to change for my students. I plan to use these books to make math fun and accessible to my students. The majority of these books use real-life examples that show students how we use math in our everyday lives. Including literature in math lessons has been shown to help promote understanding and increase student interest. Each book was chosen to help support one of our math standards. In third grade, we work on place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, measurement, geometry, and time. During lessons, we will read and discuss a book that relates to the standard we are learning. Then the books will be added to a "math library" in the classroom, where students will have access to them during independent work time.
