My students have a ton of energy and need ways to get their wiggles out even when sitting and ways to help them focus. It is proven that when students are given choice and have control and responsibility of their learning, they are more actively engaged. That includes where they choose to sit to do their work. Students learn best when they have options, and that includes where and how they sit. I would love to offer my students a chance to feel comfortable in the classroom by giving them an opportunity to choose their seating options that will help them focus. With this project, I plan to take out some of the chairs and tables of my classroom and replace them with balance balls, balance cushions, pillows to sit on at a lowered table, and even garden kneeling pads to do the same. I already have experienced using wiggle stools, and students vie for the opportunity to be the one to use them, so if I have more and different options, I feel like students will feel more comfortable and more engaged in their learning.
