The students in this gifted and talented academy are fortunate enough to have the opportunity to explore difficult topics while brainstorming real world ways to solve problems. I have found that students can learn how to make connections to self and world so much more when they are touching upon issues that are very close to home for them. These books are on a higher level which allows them the opportunity to use their growth mindset to find solutions to the problems that affect our lives and our world. With these books and this rigorous program, students have the opportunity to have the words come to life as they explore the novel using different forms of media. Students often interpret the themes and issues in the novel and use art, music, even social media to demonstrate the changes they want to make in the world.
