Take a minute and imagine a classroom where each and every student is sitting at the same desk, in the same chair, day in and day out. Do you have the picture in mind? Now take another second to view a classroom with seating options varying from wiggle chairs, to convertible cushions, to balance balls. Do you see a difference? Which environment would you like to complete your work in? Flexible seating options like the ones listed above provide students the opportunity to take charge and own their learning. Giving students this independence promotes engagement and movement in our classroom. With the higher level of engagement, students are less disruptive of their peers and more comfortable in their space. The wobble chairs are designed to give students the opportunity to wiggle in their seat while they work. The rounded base allows for students to move their bodies in a safe manner. The balance balls allow students to be more active, reducing restlessness and improving focus while they learn. Finally, the convertible comfy floor set gives students a relaxing place on the floor to complete independent work throughout the school day. This being my first year in a general education classroom, I am keen on providing a comfortable, transformable environment for all learners. I am excited to see what our classroom space can turn into with the help from others!
