One of the most vital skills my students learn is how to utilize a dictionary and thesaurus. In my class, we learn how to use guide words, decode definition, find the best definition for the word in the sentence, and much more. In order for students to have the most success, a class set of dictionaries is necessary. Unfortunately, we are currently sharing about 6 very worn out dictionaries for a class of 30 students. When each student has access to a dictionary, it opens up understanding to new words and helps students build their vocabulary. When students have to wait on someone else to finish using a dictionary, it keeps them from looking up words they might need better understanding of. Please help my students unlock their fullest potential, by providing a class set of dictionaries.
