In Maine we were one of the first states, maybe the first state, to give students computers to take home and use in the classroom. That started about 20 years ago. Since then, Google has pushed Apple out of the educational market and many schools, my school included, into getting Chromebooks. I am starting a digital journalism class this year and would like my students to use common apps like GarageBand and Cubasis to record and do audio editing. I just think it would be nice to have students familiar with these apps and use them in creative ways. Also, I have used them for many years and want to hit the ground running with what I know rather than search for a Chromebook app. I have the microphone, the headphones and a studio kit I can hook up to the iPad. I just need to upgrade my slow 2nd generation iPad I borrow from the library, and no longer updates, to a new iPad. I’m sure my students would have a blast doing the podcast with the iPad and all the audio apps available to them.
