The document camera will help to enhance the print-rich environment that I strive to create for my students. Using the principles of Wrier's Workshop my students begin to see themselves as authors and illustrators, as their knowledge and love of writing grows. As their teacher, I will use the document camera to create mini-lessons using genuine writing samples from my students to drive instruction. The document camera will be able to project their writing samples onto my Smartboard; my students radiant with pride whenever you use their work to share with the class. Since I will be using their writing to guide my mini-lessons, my students will be better engaged! After they have finished their independent writing, two or three students are picked to sit in the "Author Chair" and share their work with the entire class. However, with thirty students in the room, it is very difficult for everyone to see their writing. I will use the document camera to project the Author of the Days writing on the Smartboard. That student will be able to read their journal to the class and everyone will be able to follow along as they read their writing. My students will be excited to see their very own writing projected onto the Smartboard for everyone to read! Studies have proven that "Reading helps to increase writing and writing helps to increase reading."
