AP Literature and Composition is a class for close reading, analysis, and writing. An effective, research-based close reading skill is annotation. During annotation, students write their thoughts, observations, and other important information in the margins or lines of text. While my school does have a wide variety of texts, we do not have enough copies of these books for every student. Unfortunately, I work in a Title I school, where many students work after school jobs to help support their families. With this in mind, many parents and students are unable to purchase anything for class outside of the bare minimum for school supplies. AP Literature and Composition is a class where students should be exposed to a variety of texts and this aids in their success on the AP Examination. These books will be used to broaden students horizons of close reading, analysis, critical thinking, and academic discussion/Socratic Seminar.
