Flexible seating provides opportunities for active learning as students choose where to sit and what they will sit on. Creating a positive learning environment for each student is important in facilitating a student-centered learning experience. By adding flexible seating to my Gifted Learning Lab classroom, I hope to create an active learning environment designed for students who learn in various ways. Providing my students with flexible options like sitting on a bounce ball, in a saucer chair, on a stool or on a wobble chair will help them stay focused on their learning tasks. All students learn differently and need those instructional needs met. Flexible seating ensures that each student feels comfortable in their learning environment and can help meet all students’ instructional needs. My goal is to promote student engagement by providing a learning environment that inspires my students to enjoy learning and exploring the world.
