Students having a choice of children's literature in the classroom creates a love of reading that is rarely found through traditional textbook instruction. As a first-year teacher, I have a dream that my students would have award-winning books that they fall in love with and that benefit them educationally. When students become bored with repetitive reading textbooks, children's literature is like a breath of fresh air. We currently have very few in-class books available, all from donations. The books listed here are funny, insightful, historical, and kind. They also have educational connections, making them perfect for a classroom library. As a reading teacher, fostering a love for literature at a young age is the most important thing I can do for my students. By providing these valuable texts today, we can create the inspired leaders of tomorrow.
