To support my students, I am looking to create a safe and nurturing learning environment. This requires cooperative learning tables and a shared meeting space that is appropriate for the developmental needs of five and six year old kids. These students are learning critical self-regulatory skills, and need a classroom that is conducive to this type of work. The tables and carpet I am seeking will directly impact the students both socially and academically. The heart of my classroom is the carpet. It is a place to meet as a whole group- for morning meeting, to be read to, to receive instruction, and to create a feeling of togetherness. A carpet is also a place for the kids to layout with a favorite book, write with a clipboard, or play a game with a friend. Movement breaks are essential and frequent. The best dance parties always​ take place on the carpet! The new tables will provide areas for independent, partner, and small group work. Classroom community is encouraged by sharing student supplies, frequent seat changes, and moving to different tables during literacy centers. The tables are adjustable to meet the various size of my learners and provide flexible seating when lowered or raised.
