In my classroom, a really good book is something we read over and over again. Good books make us laugh and cry. Our favorites include: Because of Winn-Dixie, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, The One and Only Ivan, Nurse ,Soldier, Spy, Finding Winnie, Martin's Big Words, Shark Attack, Tough Boris, Hidden Figures, and 14 Cows for America. I teach my students about the power of rereading. There is so much that can be taught from a good book, especially once you reread it. This book project will allow my students to have access to whole class sets of our most favorite books. When I use these books to teach North Carolina literacy standards, each of my students will be able to have their hands on their own copy of text. While we read these books aloud, each child will have a book in their hand, reading the text and illustrations, sparking their own metacognition. When they work independently or with thinking partners, they will be able to use their book copy to analyze rigorous vocabulary, illustrations, character actions and feelings, and author's point of view. This project will allow my students' reading brains to grow daily. There is POWER in reading and rereading! Help me build the reading lives of each of my third graders!
