Due to the fact that my students are such eager and enthusiastic learners that have so much to share, I see my role as a teacher as one in which I may facilitate learning and participation. Students have so much to learn from one another. In order to create the conditions for collaborative learning to occur, students need a space to work collaboratively, as well as an environment that allows them to be at their calmest both mentally and physically. The brain is at its clearest state when physical movement is incorporated into the classroom, a flexible seating arrangement will create the conditions for students to move around the classroom, ensuring that students are reaching their full potential everyday. A flexible seating arrangement will also facilitate group work, which will propel the students forward in their learning by allowing them to apply their knowledge in groups and learn from one another. Finally, in order for meaningful learning to occur, there are social-emotional needs that must be met. By including meaningful read alouds into our classroom library that reflect and celebrate the students' backgrounds, students will feel more empowered to thrive, both individually, and as a community.
