My classroom is set up to allow all levels of learners find joy in music. We will have students that cannot read or communicate the best. We will have students that somewhere along the line were told they couldn’t sing or play an instrument. All students can find joy and success with the ukulele. I want them to see that they CAN play an instrument as well as be a part of a group. A lot of musical skills like harmony, pitch, chording, and more can be naturally taught through the ukulele while helping students also have fun. Using the ukulele to teach these skills also helps my lower functioning students better understand than the traditional way of music appreciation, where much is paper and pencil work. I want my students to love and appreciate music like I do. Appreciation happens when you actually get to physically play, not just listen and analyze.
