Engaging students is more challenging in our digital world. Adding novel sensory components to activities that teach skills is a way to interest students. Enjoying learning is especially important in kindergarten as it is when children develop their identities as students. Many of my students have sensory disorders that make them seek sensory input. Using a light table to manipulate letters and numbers and explore science concepts satisfies their sensory needs while engaging them in necessary learning activities. I believe that kindergarteners deserve an inviting and joyful environment in which to grow and learn. The addition of a light table center will help me achieve this goal!
