Gone are the days of spending the entire school day at a desk and working independently. Time and experience has taught us that building a community of learners in our classrooms is of the utmost importance to the success of our students. This carpet will provide an area where we can gather and learn as a family. This carpet will provide for my students a classroom meeting area that changes the climate from an institutional setting to a home for learning. This home for learning will, in turn, foster an engaging classroom community allowing for more effective whole class instruction. In addition, the movement from student desks to and from the meeting area will play a crucial instructional role in supporting student independence and provide the students with an opportunity for important physical activity.
