Flexible seating in the classroom allows students to take charge of their learning and make responsible choices about their seating. My students currently sit at traditional desks, on the floor, and around a couple of tables for different types of seating. I would love to bring them new seating options that help facilitate the learning they are doing in the classroom. When students have more choice in seating and are able to move freely, distracting behaviors are minimized and students are able to do their best work. The different types of seating I have selected will allow students to move as they process the work they are doing. The tall stools will allow students at standing desks an easy transition from standing to sitting. The chair bands will allow students at traditional chairs and desks to move their feet while they are working on any task. The wobble cushions will allow students the opportunity for some movement at a traditional desk or table. The butterfly seats will allow students to sit closer to the ground with a clipboard or at a table. I know my students would benefit from these different seating options in my classroom and eliminate some of the traditional barriers to genuine hands-on learning.
