As a first year teacher, I have found one of the biggest areas my classroom is lacking is a true library area. This library will be used for free reading time, morning work, and small-group rotation. The variety of chairs, pillows, and loungers give students an opportunity to take a break from a traditional school desk and really get lost in their reading. I believe it is critical for students to learn to love reading as early as possible! I selected a variety of books to meet their interests and reading levels. There are early readers, chapter books, fiction, and non-fiction. There are classics, like Dr. Suess, and newer books, such as the Pete the Cat series. There is something for every student in this library! Having this in my room would allow me the opportunity to have a greater selection of books to read out loud to my students, also. It would be beneficial to everyone who comes to my classroom! I would really appreciate any and all help in making this a reality for my first graders!
