Our school is a public middle school in an urban setting. We are the newcomer school for the district and our students represent a cross section of cultures. One class I am currently working with is designed for our long term English Language Learners, to enable them to gain the academic literacy necessary for them to access the broader curriculum and succeed in high school and beyond. I am trying to infuse some arts based teaching into this formula, in particular a year long commitment to digital storytelling. Our intent is to use this technological and artistic medium to facilitate access to academic writing in an inspiring and authentic way.
