This past year I really noticed some students struggling with participation, focus, and staying seated during their independent work time. I began to let the students choose to sit or to stand. This seemed to help some of the students with their focus. I then remembered a couple of years ago being introduced to the idea of flexible seating, and the research that supports why it works. Being someone who had a hard time focusing when I was in school, I can really empathize with my students who are struggling to concentrate while sitting in a chair for the majority of their day. I began thinking of a specific student I had that was given a "wobble" stool. I remember he would pick this seat every day and he began to excel in his work. He was no longer distracting others, or walking around the room, but rather focusing and working as hard as he could in his "wobble" stool. He needed the constant movement to focus, and this simple "wobble stool" made a world of a difference! I would love to provide appropriate materials for each student's specific needs myself, but unfortunately, I am unable to do so alone. It helps each student feel so loved and cared for when they know that people believe in them and their abilities, and are willing to provide for them to reach their greatest potential! If you can help me with donations it would be so appreciated!
