I noticed during the school year that my students and the students in the other classes were struggling with behavior, specifically the area of treating each other with kindness. I started an initiative in my school called Get Caught Being Kind. I made bracelets for each staff member to hand out to students they caught doing a kind deed. In my head this idea started to take off. I decided that each classroom would benefit from having a Kindness Kit. Each kit would have a selection of books, activities to promote kindness and the Get Caught Being Kind bracelets. The students would need to see examples of kindness. I felt that the best way to provide examples of kindness would be through literature. Using the books I have chosen, the teachers in my building will be able to provide examples of kindness through the enjoyment of listening to stories. These stories will be the catalyst for the discussion on how we can spread kindness.
