Our current classroom library is very outdated. Most of the books in our collection are not grade level appropriate for first graders. Our collection also lacks any books popular among the age group today. First grade is the foundation for students to learn important literacy skills that will serve them throughout their education. New books for our classroom library would be more grade level appropriate and appealing for my students. Getting students excited about reading is an important step in motivating them to practice their literacy skills. My students need hands on experience in order to become more proficient readers.
