The students who engage in my class and my p4c after school club will use the p4c approach to help them become children philosophers. The students are in charge of their learning and are part of a intellectually safe learning community. They will read the articles in the Scholastic News and Time for kids and have community inquires, sharing their idea and listening to each others thoughts. They will learn to ask more questions to gain understanding, accept differences in opinions, and become open to changing their thoughts after listening to others, and respecting others ideas. The teacher becomes the facilitator in the conversation. The composition books will be used as thinking journals to jot down ideas and thoughts to share with others. The students will have the opportunity to raise philosophical questions that lead to higher order thinking! By participating in p4c, it will help to build the students compassion and kindness for others and to see the world through different perspectives.
