As a first time 5th grade teacher and previous sub, I saw first had how flexible seating is vital to the learning environment. I noticed boredom and unwillingness to read when students had to stay in their desks during selected reading time. Here in my classroom, students will be allowed a choice where to sit when asked to read, in which students become more fond to personal reading. Using flexible seating will help establish a want to read in the classroom because students will choose what and where they want to read, allowing them the flexibility to change their environment. Giving my students reading options like, "The Island of the Blue Dolphins" will allow students to immerse themselves in a new world they never knew before, also giving them insight on how others live around them. There is nothing more gratifying when a student starts developing a hunger for reading because reading is the fundamental aspect of learning.
