Flexible seating allows students to take control of their learning and make choices that work best for them. During independent work times, students choose a location in the classroom that they feel would be the most beneficial for completing tasks. Currently, my students do not have many choices to sit and work collaboratively or independently. They can either work at their desks or sit on the floor. Providing students with areas to work that are comfortable and inviting, will promote active engagement and then inspire learning. I have noticed when my students are given a choice in their seating, even as much as moving to a different desk, they really delve into their assignments. It gives them a sense of control. They almost always are more engaged and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The comfy colorful floor beanbag chairs and couch will allow for comfortable seating options. Since they are lightweight, they can be easily moved and used in many areas of the classroom.
I have seen how even the smallest choice can positively affect my students’ work ethic and mood, so I know that these new seating options would help motivate them to become the successful learners I know them to be!
