This year, in IB and AP Lit and Film and Lit, we are focusing on building students' capacity for their post-high-school endeavors. One of the ways we plan to practice doing our reading outside of class will be to send these novels home with students so that they can read, annotate, and write their journal reflections without worrying about bringing their book back for someone else to use! As a life-long reader, I know that I always want to own a copy of my favorite novels so that I can mark my pages, write my notes, and return to parts I love later. I want to build in my students a love for reading by giving them the novel for our first unit without any apprehension or anxiety about having to buy or borrow a book.
