My students have been in a remote learning environment for over one year and now it is time to return to the classroom. As my students are of middle school age, 6th through 8th grades exactly, I would like to offer my class of 15 flexible seating options in their new classroom this school year. Coming to school every day and sitting in a chair and desk after having the unexpected creature comforts of home for over a year will be a challenge for my students. Sure we can say they come to school to learn, not be comfortable, but put yourself back in the learner's seat for a moment. How do you learn best? Is it sitting in a rigid, uncomfortable, hard desk? I want their focus to be on the learning and boy, do we have a ton of catching up to do! So many gaps to fill and I want them to feel extremely comfortable in their new learning environment. Study after study have reflected positive results when flexible seating is provided for students with varied abilities. Namely, it helps increase student engagement. I want my students engaged, attentive, and most of all COMFORTABLE in THEIR learning environment. As their teacher, I wanted to create an environment where they feel valued, safe, comfortable, and truly cared for. It takes a village and I am thankful for mine! Thank you in advance for considering my class for your donation.
