Students with Autism and other disabilities can have difficulty regulating themselves. Students who are disregulated tend to display more behaviors and have difficulty in school. Exercise and items that can give resistance helps provide the sensory input students need to calm themselves and be more productive. Students learn best when they are able to focus on their learning rather than their bodies. The exercise bikes give students a place to work as they get out their extra energy. They bosu balls help them work on their balance and help build core strength, which helps with endurance. Florescent lights aren't good for students with autism as the noise bothers them. The lamps will give an opportunity for students to take a break from the florescent lighting in the classrooms. The resistance bands will allow students to get proprioceptive input to calm them when they are agitated or really excited. All of these tools will be put in a sensory area of the classroom that the students can access when they need to. They will be taught to notice the signs they start to feel and show when they need a sensory break. They will then be taught to access the strategies that work for them. These skills will help them be more successful in school and eventually in jobs.
