I learned recently that my classroom does not have a group carpet. This is extremely important as I firmly believe in whole class discussions and learning to begin each unit. This carpet will serve as a place that my students build relationships with each other and with me. We will begin each day here with "good things" and calendar time and end each day on here, reflecting on our learning and feelings. This will be the central point in my classroom, something that brings all learning together. Students will know where their "spot" is on the carpet as the year progresses. One of my favorite part of carpet time is whole class literacy!
