After spending the past 9 years teaching second grade, I will need some help adjusting my materials to a first-grade room! I am eager and excited to start my new teaching journey, but many of the materials needed to engage first grade, new-to-school minds are not found within my second-grade bins. I was hoping to gather hands-on math and calendar activities to best reach all learners. The blocks and geoboards are great independent centers, especially to challenge the highest learners and "quick finishers." The calendar is almost a necessity in grade 1, helping students to understand number order, days of the week, seasons, weather, counting patterns, and so much more! It is an integral part of my day.
