The school that I work in is a large, inner-city school that unfortunately does not have working air conditioner units in all of the rooms. Our building is very old and doesn't have AC. Our students fight to learn in hot, humid spaces; it's a barrier to their learning. Hot rooms make students tired, sweaty, and distracted which makes it harder for them to engage with the learning experiences happening. Several children in my class also suffer from asthma and other respiratory problems. Having an overheated classroom will make it hard for them to breathe and could potentially set them off to have an attack. An AC will remove this barrier and provide opportunities for students to focus on what's important.
