My goal is to use this piece at the beginning of the year to engage students. Most students love the Marvel Universe, Cosplay and Fortnite. The Odyssey would meet students were they are and help me increase the buy-in for the rest of the year. Once, hooked, I will have an opportunity to get students to think differently about literature. Moreover, the nature of the book can ease some of the fear around difficult vocabulary and other literary elements. A colleague of mine used this book and she said the buy-in and interested helped her spark an interest in reading.
