Our school has implemented Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) in order to provide the consistent structure and behavior guidelines that many of our students lack. Our school expectations are L.E.A.D.: Love Myself and Others Engaged everyday Act responsibly Demonstrate Safety Students earn “Mustang Dollars” for exhibiting these L.E.A.D. behaviors throughout the school day. They can spend their money in the classroom or at school wide events. We use the Mustang dollars to promote positive behavior, responsibility and money management as students must decide to spend or save their money. My favorite group is our kindergarten students as they express such delight in the smallest of prizes. One of my favorite stories is of a kindergarten student who spent all his money buying gifts for his family members and nothing for himself. We are seeing more kind gestures like this as our program grows.
