Flexible seating allows students to make the best choice possible when it comes to their learning. It allows them the ability to take some ownership of their education and helps foster responsibility and accountability during the day. Currently, my students don't have a ton of options within the classroom to move around and learn other than their desk. They enjoy moving around during reading and writing workshop, but most students won't leave their seats because there isn't many other comfortable options for them to learn and work. Some will grab a clipboard and sit in the floor, but I want to offer more. My students would be more motivated and eager to complete assignments if their space was more comfortable and home like. We do a lot of mini lessons for reading and math. I would use the rug up front so students would have a comfortable place to sit during these lessons and discussions. The stools would be a great addition to our back table. It would allow for more students to fit comfortably without trying to cram our bulky desk chairs together. The books are awesome science materials that I'd use throughout the year to teach skills such as text and graphic features and writing informational text. These books are also just high interest and engage even my most relunctant reader. They are a great addition to any classroom library. These students deserve so much and by helping to fund this project, you'll also be making a difference in students' lives to be more focused and engaged which ultimately leads to more academic successes in their future.
