MakerSpaces are places where students can build, create, invent, tinker, explore, and discover using a variety of materials. MakerSpaces are typically loosely structured, but ours will also host STEAM challenges where students will work collaboratively to solve a given challenge within certain constraints. Ultimately, my goal is to foster an environment where students can develop creativity, critical thinking and problem solving skills, applying knowledge to practical problems, collaborate with other students more, and gain confidence in their abilities. Whether it is using materials to create bridges and learning what designs prove to be the most sturdy, or if it's coding mini robots to maneuver through an obstacle course, students will be fully engaged and able to challenge their thinking.
