About my class

I could not imagine sitting all day in one chair like some 6-year-olds do. While I try to provide my students with plenty of opportunities to get up and move around, they would really appreciate varied seating options! Not all students are the same, and not all students learn best sitting in a traditional chair that allows for limited movement. If this project gets funded, my first graders will get to choose whether they sit in a traditional chair, on a stool, on a soft floor pillow, or on a comfy, fluffy rug. These options will allow them to move around more during the school day. Choosing their own seats will provide my students with more of a sense of responsibility and the opportunity to take ownership of their own learning. For the first time, they will be challenged to make decisions about where they learn best, creating the opportunity for them to take charge of this vital part of their own education.
