Each day will begin with independent reading of a class selected novel. Some parts may be read aloud by the teacher. There will be a purpose for listening and reading to engage the students in some critical thinking as they listen and read Students will be able to respond to portions of the daily assigned reading that is done daily by journaling based on the following prompts; 1.What do you think the author meant by...? What from the text makes you think that? 2. Why do you think the character...did...? What makes you think that? 3. Does this story remind you of another story that you have read? Tell us why using specific details from both stories. 4. If you were to meet the author, what questions might you have for him/her? Why? The journal responses will be formatted into the class padlet and shown on the classroom SMART board once a week so the entire class can share their individual responses and their classmates can respond to one another.
