In first grade, we spend a lot of time gathered together on the floor. Our day begins with morning meeting and throughout the day the students gather on the floor to participate in whole group lessons. Additionally, during reading time, they often like to sit on the floor near the classroom library. The floor in the classroom is linoleum and isn’t very comfortable for the students. I inherited two small rugs from previous teachers, however, they are quite worn out. They are so old, that I can’t get them completely clean, the rubber underneath is gone and they are past their prime. I would like to purchase two new rugs for the classroom so that the students have a clean, comfortable and inviting place to sit during lessons as well as during reading time. I have explored purchasing these rugs on my own, but it is quite expensive, so I would appreciate your assistance in funding this project so that each student will have a great place to sit and learn.
