A look at a true story, to help student identify social injustices faced in the past, and present. Students will compare the the 1998 lynching of James Byrd to the lynching of Emmett Till and the current social injustices and police brutality against African Americans. Students will read and discuss what happened and why the time period is so significant and how far African American have or have not come since the Jim Crow Era. Students will see and follow the tale of a man and the city in which a Hate Crime was committed. They'll bring History to life.
