After 19 years of teaching 1st and 2nd grade, I will be moving to 3rd grade next year and I'm very excited!! Studies have shown that students learn better when they are comfortable and are allowed to move. Even as adults, we get tired when sitting in the same spot for long periods of time. Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. I was inspired to do this project after seeing so many of my colleagues introduce flexible seating to their students and the success they have had. Other than traditional desks, I do not have much furniture in my new classroom. I would love to brighten up their learning environment by adding a variety of seating choices. I have seen how choice can have a positive impact on student growth as well as create a welcoming learning environment for children to spend their days in.
