Students are more engaged when in a comfortable classroom environment. Flexible seating allows students to be comfortable while focused on their learning. I currently have a limited number of flexible seating options. Those include 3 exercise balls, a standing desk, a low table for sitting on the floor, 2 wobble stools and 3 rocking chairs. Students typically gravitate toward these creative seating options, but there currently aren't enough to meet the needs of my students. When students are able to choose flexible seating, they are more comfortable and more actively engaged. The flexible seating options that I have selected would allow more students to have the opportunity for flexible seating during the day. The wobble stools can be used at desks and tables while students work independently or collaboratively with their peers. The cushions can be placed on chairs or on the floor while students are working on various tasks throughout the day. I have seen how choice in seating can positively affect my students' engagement and attention and I hope that the additional options will help even more students!
