My school is in an urban district where funds for classroom resources are limited. I teach chemistry and physics, two subjects in which students learn to apply math to real-life situations. My project will have an immediate and everyday impact on learning. By providing a class set of scientific calculators, all students will have access to the technology to succeed, regardless of means. The Texas Instruments calculators allow for more advanced problem-solving in lessons that calculate the climate change impact of burning fuels and how to make renewable energy generators. Real world applications like these allow the students to connect with the learning objectives (i.e. why am I learning this?). Additionally, I have chosen the Texas Instruments calculators because they allow the students to review their steps which enhances understanding and reduces frustration. This will allow students to better grasp the problem-solving, which in turn will create confidence in their ability to understand math and science.
