Middle school students will greatly benefit from the fresh air and unique space of an outdoor classroom.The outdoor classroom will be a place that teachers and staff can take students as an alternate learning environment. It will consist of benches organized into a circle to optimize collaboration/discussion. The outdoor space will be designed as a classroom for teaching and learning with optional tools such as clipboards and whiteboards, but it will also serve a dual purpose as a space to hold restorative practice circles for harm, repair, and community building. These tools will allow students to continually participate in lessons and activities despite not being in the traditional setting. Our hopes are that school and classroom climate will increase because students are given a new, exciting, and inviting space to learn and interact.
