As a special education teacher for 11 years, I have seen the effects of therapy dogs on my students. I have seen students having an emotional breakdown and as soon as the therapy dog walks in they immediately calm down. At my previous school, we were able to reward students as a part of an incentive chart to earn time with the school's therapy dog. Young students were able to gain confidence in reading to the therapy dog. This is something very special to my heart and helping my students not only socially and emotionally but also academically. If I am chosen, the money will be used for obtaining and training a therapy dog to be taken with me to school each day. I have found the perfect breed in a Goldendoodle so if children are allergic to animals there won't be a problem. I would be very grateful for any donations in order to start this journey and see my students light up and grow socially, emotionally, and academically.
