In this list of materials is three items: CD player, headphones, and audiobooks. In our classroom, we do Daily 5. With Daily 5, students participate in a center/rotation called "Listen to Reading." With listen to reading, students listen to fluent readers read stories, while they follow along in the text. This helps students to hear what reading aloud should sound like. With the CD player, students will be able to put in the CD audiobooks to listen to. With the headphones, students will be able to listen to the audiobooks without bothering other students who are also working. With the audiobooks on CD and the corresponding books, students are given the chance to listen to new books and follow along as they hear the stories read. Not only can these materials be used for reading, but they can be used for other subject areas as well! Some books chosen are fictional stories that students are learning science and social studies North Carolina first grade standards as well. Not only that, but the headphones can be used for students who cannot bring their own headphones, to be able to participate in online math, reading, science, and social studies games and activities.
