I am so excited to have my students back on campus in just a few days. Last year was an amazing year with my 6th-grade students even with all of the challenges due to COVID-19! I want my classroom to serve students as a space to develop a passion for learning while working alongside one another. The floor pillows will give students a comfortable and exciting space to sit as they engage in math and science discussions. I will use the Time for Kids issues to create classroom culture as students discuss their interest in real-world events with one another. I use popsicle sticks to facilitate classroom discussion and sort students into groups. The learning pockets will be used to highlight key vocabulary words in the units that are essential to student's academic success. I will use the fraction stacks, fraction circles, and percent circles to engage students in the math standards that rely on prior fraction knowledge. The manipulatives will allow me to check for understanding as students show me their thinking. Whole number place value cards will allow me to explore the concept of place value with hands-on manipulatives. The colors of the place value cards help to engage students in this elementary math concept which is crucial in middle school math courses. "Smath" (an equations game) will allow students to challenge one another in a game that informs their understanding of equations while allowing them to socialize with one another. Students that are struggling with the concept of division will be incentivized to continue practicing their skill as they play with the division power pen. I look forward to taking advantage of the potential this school year has to offer as my students come back to join me in the
