The alphabet carpet will be used as our gathering area for morning social centers, calendar time, lessons, and read alouds. During morning centers, students choose a creative center to work with a partner or a small group. Students are able to practice their communication and creative thinking skills. What better place to do this than on a beautiful, colorful rug! It will be a comfortable place for children to grow. Students will also notice the letters and pictures on the rug. This will help familiarize them with the alphabet letters and connect these letters to their sounds. During our mini lessons, students will have a place to call their own. Having something to call your own helps build confidence, which can lead to success! With the bold borders of each space, students will understand/respect personal space as well as have the confidence and genuinely know that they belong to our school family. The cushions will be use as an alternative seat choice. Not every person is comfortable in a chair at a desk. I want to provide my children with alternative seating options so that they are comfortable and engaged in their learning during centers or work time.
