These materials will provide much needed supplies for our writing journals. Our journals are interactive, a continuous project that students can keep forever. We do group projects, as well as instructional standards and personal writing. They are also a resource that we create as we learn new ideas and topics. My students LOVE these journals! It is sometimes difficult to keep kids’ attention these days. We start our year with writing activities that include artistic graphic organizers that inspire kids to think and be creative. An example of a beginning of the year writing activity is entitled, "Things I can't live without". Students have 10 minutes to make a list in the organizer. I show them my list as an example or create one under the document camera. Students may then take turns sharing their list if they wish. Students then choose their top 5 ideas, and we do 5 five minute quick writes. From those, they choose one they would like to develop. This is a brief description of one process we use in our writing. Thank you for your help!
